Restoring Indigo

The color the world forgot.

Safe water opens the door. Care that respects culture and religion walks through it. We stay long enough for a child to imagine a life, and for a person’s genius to be seen.

The work

What a neighbor meets first.

Six commitments, in the order a person would actually meet them. Practical on purpose. The longer story of the name waits further down, for anyone who wants it.

  1. Culturally competent care

Doctors and nurses, serving across the world. We learn how a people live, pray, and heal, and we treat that knowledge as respect. Good care enters the room as a guest.

  2. Safe drinking water

This is the door. A well, a filter, a cup a child can trust. Safe water is practical love: the first mercy, and the reason a door opens at all.

  3. Faith, offered as a seed

Where we are welcomed, we share materials in the language people speak, attentive to their tradition and honest about the love of God. A seed in an open hand.

  4. Beyond the short visit

A brief trip can bless a place and still leave too soon. We look further: purpose, creativity, and the genius already in a person who needs a push, a tool, or someone who sees them.

  5. For the children

Hope should fit in small hands. Toys, a doctor kit, a science set, so a child can practice healing, discovery, and a future before the world has named it.

  6. A shared movement

Many voices, one aim. Doctors, nurses, families, translators, neighbors, and children. A collaborative work, larger than any single name, pointed at the same good.

Why indigo

Indigo is God’s heavenly grace.

A full rainbow has seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Many rainbows in public life are drawn with six, including the widely known pride rainbow. The color left out is indigo.

Seven bands. Indigo, between blue and violet, is the one this work restores.
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet

Restoring it means putting that grace back into the bow. A complete arc. A love wide enough for every person.

Everyone deserves grace. Only God judges.

We love God first, and our neighbor second. The love of God, and the miracles that attend that love, stay at the center of why we move. The door we open in public is still practical: water, care, children, and hope. No one is asked to pass a test before they are helped.

Where faith is shared, it is a seed. Materials in a people’s own language. Respect for their tradition. Honesty about the love of God. An open hand.

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

Genesis 9:13, King James Version

The covenant stands as Genesis gave it. Our part is to keep grace among the colors.

If your faith is different from ours, you are still a neighbor here. Safe water is a gift, freely given.
